The Story

Everything a new reader needs. Nothing past the town limits.

— The series

Gravestone Girl

An original gothic-horror graphic novel series, written and drawn by Phil Davis. It follows Eliza Draycott (twenty-one, deathrock to the bone, and a working supernatural investigator) into the places that would rather stay buried.

She doesn’t travel alone. There’s the Mourner, a 1960 Cadillac Superior Crown hearse that’s as much a character as anyone with a pulse.

Drowning at Black Hymn

Black Hymn, Minnesota. Population 837. The book opens on a frozen highway: the Mourner mid-turn, a road sign reading BLACK HYMN 13 MI.

It’s a lake town, and Lake Mourne sets the terms. The people here come in four kinds: the ones born here, the ones who came and stayed, the ones who commute out, and the ones who live closest to the water.

You’ll get to know its corners: Kerrigan’s Auto Repair, the BELLWETHER record shop, the Sunday Morning bar, The Last Gas(p), Dead Pines Cemetery, the public library and the waterfront.

— The sound

Music is structure

Post-punk, deathrock and industrial records run through Gravestone Girl: on the Mourner’s radio, in the bins at BELLWETHER, and under everything else. The songs aren’t set dressing. They carry story.
